Places to discover

"Le Coq du Nord - Mailhac" is an ideal place to discover Languedoc - Roussillon by car, by bike or on foot. The Canal du Midi, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is 8 km away. Narbonne, Carcassonne , BĂ©zier or the Mediterranean beaches are less than 45 minutes away by car.

Here are our favorite places:

Mailhac

Impossible to stay in Mailhac without visiting our small medieval village marked by 5000 years of history. While wandering the streets, you can admire the Mailhacois heritage with its ramparts, its Square Tower, its cobbled streets, its church,... In the evening the old street lamps light up the village, we love it. We also like to put on our walking shoes or go by bike to observe other masterpieces (the aqueduct, the Dolmen, the Lime Kilns, etc.) or even reach the neighboring villages and the Canal du Midi. We will not fail to inform you of the trails taken. In addition, the landscapes are splendid.

The Somail

For bike enthusiasts, you can easily get there from us. At Le Somail, we encourage you to go to the Tourist Office, they are great and full of good advice. Then, don't miss the Bookstore. For book lovers , consider setting aside a few hours of your day.

Minerva

This small village is one of the most beautiful villages in France and you will quickly be able to observe its entire history. We invite you to stroll through its medieval streets and enter the small craft shops. There are just magnificent views. For hikers, there are also great hikes.

Narbonne

In the morning, go to the market halls and end this meeting with a tasting of good typical dishes accompanied by a glass of regional wine. Afternoon, visit the Cathedral and the Archbishops' Palace-Museum.You won't miss strolling through the streets of the Medieval district and why not shopping in the center of the city. A relaxing day in Narbonne is a must during your vacation. For museum lovers, go to ""Narbo Via"".

Caunes-Minervois

This charming village in Minervois is renowned for its pink marble quarries which have been exploited since Antiquity. Stroll through its picturesque streets, discover its Benedictine abbey and soak up the history that emerges from its old stones. You will also be able to admire magnificent sculptures.

Gruissan

Our favorite by the sea because Gruissan is full of activities. There are the beaches but also the port where you can walk. You will also spend time in the heart of the village. It should be noted that it is the only port village in circulation in all of Languedoc-Rousillon. Go for a walk around the ponds and then head over to the salt marshes. We go there regularly and it is always a real moment of happiness.

Lagrasse

On our first visit, we spent the day although we initially thought we would only be there for a few hours. First of all, stroll through the alleys where you meet several artisans . Then, visit the Abbey . Please note, there are two parts: one paid and the other free. We did both and really enjoyed it. We also invite you to go to the ""Cyril Codina"" vinegar factory. The people present the places to you with dynamism and the tasting is a real pleasure for the taste buds. Wine lovers will also be delighted.

Carcasonne

Personally, we prefer Narbonne to Carcassonne. However, the Medieval City with its castle and the ramparts classified as a world heritage site by UNESCO are worth the detour. In addition, cassoulet lovers will go to ""the cassoulet house"" to delight their taste buds. For parents, expect to come back with a sword...

Leucate

Oyster lovers, go to Leucate to taste oysters with your feet in the water . Here, a change of scenery is guaranteed. We even forget being in France. Then, go to the beaches and cliffs . Landscapes that you cannot miss. You can also walk along the beaches or to the port. Here too, consider reserving a day to discover this magnificent place which is full of beautiful discoveries.

Peyriac-de-Mer

When we started to discover the region, our first big favorite was Peyriac-de-Mer. It is a place that invites you to stroll through the heart of the village and along the Doul pond . The landscapes and its colors are superb. It is a place imbued with serenity. A day in Peyriac-de-Mer is synonymous with recharging your batteries.

Bouzigues

For once, we are changing direction... For shellfish lovers, a destination not to be missed. For our part, we discovered the restaurant ""Les Pieds dans l'eau"" where we had an exceptional time. After this experience, a digestive walk along the pond is essential or a little nap on the beach. There are also hikes that we haven't had time to do yet. However, we rely on our hosts to share their experiences.
